A4CWSN | A cause that Keeps Growing

Kat's Cafe | Cause of the Week | A4CWSN | Apps for Children with Special NeedsAuthor’s Note: Through A4CWSN’s iPads 4U program, and the generous support of readers after my post here, the minis’ iPad ships next week!

Gary James is dedicated to helping families and caretakers of children with special needs, with a distinction of honor among many special needs families because of his work on behalf of A4CWSN – Apps for Children with Special Needs. If you haven’t heard of his site and what it does to help support the special needs community, read on.  His tireless efforts on behalf of the special needs community makes it only fitting that he is this week’s Cause of the Week.

James’ site supports parents as well as the “wider community of educators and therapists who support them, by producing videos that demonstrate how products designed to educate children and build their life skills really work from a user perspective.” — from the About Us page of James’ site.

A4CWSN’s posts and videos help families, therapists, and educators know if an App (some of which can be expensive) will work for the child and skill level needed. This is an invaluable resource alone.

But Gary has started some other great initiatives as well, in an effort to bring iPads to families and children who otherwise might not be able to afford them.  He has two main initiatives, and I’m going to post a little something directly from his site about each:

iPads for Children with Special Needs | 50 iPads, 50 States, 50 Children

Causes | Apps for Children with Special Needs

With your support, A4cwsn is aiming to provide 50 iPads for 50 Children with Special Needs in 50 States. This is only achievable if we all join together and make an effort to raise enough funds to make this happen.

Can you help us in this worthy cause? [... Part of post truncated for length]

Parents can get involved by:

1. Holding fundraisers in your State / Town
2. Blogging about it on your personal Blog / Facebook / Twitter [emphasis mine]
3. Writing an email to local businesses in your area and asking them to get involved
4. Getting friends and families involved in raising funds too
5. Donating any amount to the campaign.
6. Getting your company to donate to this great causeA4cwsn will carefully select one worthy family from each State to receive the iPads from the iPad 4 U campaign entries. –50 iPads, 50 States, 50 Children Campaign Page

This is a worthy campaign on it’s own accord, but Gary’s initial iPad initiative is helping families as well.

iPads 4U | Discounted iPads for Special Needs Kids

Gary’s initial program, called iPads 4U, was a way for the site to help families receive an iPad for their special needs child (or children). From his iPads4U page on the A4CWSN site:

Apps for Children with Special Needs would like to provide iPads to as many families dealing with Special Needs as we possibly can. We will be starting a campaign to raise money as well as contributing money from the site in order to do this.

All you have to do to be eligible is register with A4cwsn, follow us on Twitter and / or Facebook then send us a letter detailing why your family needs an iPad and how it will help you. There will be a list compiled and the ones we feel could benefit most will be moved to the top. The more information you give us, the more we can determine your situation, photos, videos, school reports, what ever you feel comfortable telling us. Simple and easy to do. To get started register with us on the HOME page 3/4 down left side and watch this page for details on the list. –iPads 4U Page

AWCWSN is helping so many special needs families!

They helped three kids by helping the minis get their iPad, and for that I am grateful. But with their hard work and passionate service, they are helping countless families, and for that I am led to be involved, and for the Cafe to be involved. After all, a regular Cafe would normally have folks with iPads visiting regularly, right? Kat’s Cafe, in my bid to help provide connections within the special needs family, thinks so, and I think this is a cause well worth a post on your own blog, a tweet, a share, or even, a donation!

Causes | Help Kat’s Cafe buy an iPad for one Special Needs Family!

Donate here at the Cafe and all monies raised will go directly to Gary at A4CWSN to help  a special needs child receive an iPad. If we raise $200, we’ll have helped offset the cost for the next family involved in their iPads 4U campaign. If we can raise more, the whole cost will go toward the cost of an iPad (more than one?) for Gary to use as part of his 50 iPads, 50 States, 50 Children campaign.

All money donated here will go directly to Gary. I use the Chip In Widget to keep track of donations, but they all pass straight through to the user’s Paypal address!

Help a special needs family today by helping them with the cost of an iPad today; give Gary the opportunity to continue his passionate work!

The A4CWSN Cause of the Week – a cause worth supporting for all special needs families!
