So here’s the thing, if you’ve been following along you know that the Moody gang has been going through healthy living 101 around here, and nothing is safe from the dreaded hand of mom. I’m an evil, evil woman, I tell you!
But along the way I had to make this stand for my family, and I think it’s an important one. Because in our household alone we are dealing with diabetes and obesity (my own), and I have one child in danger of needing a g-tube because he won’t eat enough (Bobby – a post for another day) and I have a lifetime of not-so-healthy learning to undo.
I’m new to this, though, so I’m not only challenging myself, personally, to make these changes for my family, I’d like to personally challenge you all to join us in making positive steps forward in your own healthy living journey. Whether you will strive to cook a dinner at home most nights a week, or you’re wanting to cook fresh vegetables or incorporate greens … everyone can do something to improve their health, for themselves and their family.
Over the coming weeks I’ll be sharing more resources with you, and inviting you to do the same. I’ll also share more with you about the group I joined that I think has made all the difference.
Don’t feel you have to do things the same way I have, that you have to join the same group, visit the same sites, think what’s healthy for you has the be the same thing I feel is healthy for me.
I’m a bit biased, I know as I talk more about whole foods, cutting out processed foods, and the challenges of affording organic foods, you’ll see more of that bias, what I prefer to call enthusiasm. But I hope you will also see that making healthy living changes can be done, one step at a time, one decision at a time.
I’m part of a 90-day challenge as part of the group I belong with, and I might moan and groan a bit about it – it’s frustrating me that I can’t lose the weight as easily as I gained it … so to help keep my enthusiasm going, I think it’s time to make this more personal.
One change at a time make healthy living possible. And that’s what I am challenging you to do. Right click the graphic above (or pin it and embed it in your own blog that way) to grab the graphic for your own blog, or to just pin it, share it, tweet it – and let us know what you are wanting to change.
You might have around 100 pounds to lose (like me), or you might have a house full of picky eaters you want to encourage to eat healthier (um, yeah, us too!). Maybe you already eat tons of fruits and vegetables, but you eat out too often, fix meals from a cardboard box more than you do from scratch …
The point is, whatever your challenge is to healthy living, I’d like you to take the pledge to stand up for healthy living. If you are a blogger in the special needs community I would love to extend this invitation to you as well. We face so many challenges to our health, so many stresses, as families who have children with special needs … we need to encourage and lift each other up.
Your assignment: Pledge to make one change at a time, comment and share to spread the word and let me know what you most want to change, and what steps you are willing to take today. For you. For your family.
Today is the first step for you – will you join with the Kat’s Cafe Healthy Living Challenge?
I have 2 kids with Sensory Processing Disorder. So food textures are quite a challenge. Carbs seem to work for them, fruits and vegetables not so much. So I decided that I could make a change by eliminating sweets from my cupboards. Out went the ice cream and sweet snacks, exemptions for special occasions. It was a start.

Every step is a start in the right direction, Julie! Thanks for sharing that! My guys have also done well with most carbs but never wanted much to do with fruits and vegetables. I’ve been a hiding genie with all their veggies and trying to get them to just try more of them. We’ll see!
i have decides to try and lose 30 kilos to help my heart and diabetes cutting out alcohol and fatty snacks
A great resource that we have for Sports 4 All is SparkPeople.com. They have newsletters that you can subscribe to that offer exercises of the day, recipe of the day, etc. It has been a great resource for us to use for our program Project HEALTH. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and our blog.
I belong to SparksPeople.com too but it’s hard for me to remember to check in there often. Do you have tricks to remind folks to check in the forums and tracking there?
Thanks for sharing this great info, Kat. I am working towards removing extra flab from my body:p, I work out daily and do yoga, and following a healthy diet. Will wait for the resources you will be sharing.

Hi Kat! It takes a great deal of self-discipline to opt for healthier choices. I’ve been struggling to lose the excess pounds I gained from being sedentary and eating too much. I’ll be back to check for updates, thanks!
