Jim’s Notes on Life: Kat(rina) … A Little Aspie Quirk

When Little Things Make me Shiver – or a Little Aspie Quirk

Note from Kat: My nickname has been a thorn in Jim’s side since I first started using it, many years ago. The man hates it, with a passion. I think you might enjoy a chuckle as he explains his reasoning ….

JIm's Corner at Kat'(rina)s CafeI love that Katrina has been so involved in special needs advocacy since our oldest son, Bobby, was born.  The past year or so she’s made great strides online with this website, starting up our future nonprofit organization, The Rarelink, and helping others with their online issues.

The one massive thing that bothers me about it all is everyone calling her (hates typing it) Kat.  (shivers)

I am a VERY literal person.  I take almost anything anyone tells me word for word.  As I shared in my first post here at the Cafe, I have Aspergers Syndrome.  I found out that I had it about 8 years ago.  The geneticist who sees the boys first noticed it about me.  All three of my guys have varying degrees of Autism so it wasn’t a real shock.  Explains a lot about how I think, react, and feel.  Katrina thought I had it before I knew about it.

Back to Kat(rina) – Just a Little Aspie Quirk

So going back to the Kat(rina) issue.  I’m allergic to cats.  I have never really liked cats.  One cat I loved was when I was around 9 years old.  He was poisoned by someone.  Other than that one cat, others have been a nuisance to me.  From the three legged cat that Katrina had when we first got married [Note from Kat: his name was Ernie, dear, LOL] to the huge white male cat that my Mom had that never used the litter box.

Every time I see Katrina use that nickname or see someone call her that it just irks me I guess.  I can’t explain anything else about it.  I really want her to change the name of her website but I don’t think I can win that argument for now. [Note from Kat: Nope. Never!]

Next time I can go into why I don’t like certain phrases such as “Make ends meet”. *Grin*

I'm a special needs parent before just about everything else in life, but also a passionate advocate for my three boys and husband, who all have a bit of awesomeness about them. Awesomeness = Axenfeld-Rieger Syndrome, Autism, Epilepsy, Dyslexia, Cerebral Palsy, and more. It all adds up to some awesome kids and an amazing family.

hehe it’s funny how the smallest thing can bother people beyond belief, i’m like that too and can’t do anything about it :)

It’s strange. I could hear a word or phrase once and it sticks with me forever. Now that the new internet speak is out I have an even harder time. Thanks for the comment! :)
