Writing, Design & more – A New Beginning for Kat’s Cafe

It’s a New Look, and a New Purpose

Well, if you are new here you might have no idea what the big deal is, but if you have EVER visited the Cafe before, you will understand what a huge change the site has undergone. Huge!

What started as a major problem has turned into a blessing, though. When I updated my theme late last week I either had a corrupted file or something else very strange happened, and my site went down. I attempted to go in under the FTP to see if I could just roll back my changes, only to find that my last configuration was corrupted somehow.

I panicked.

From the Chaos, a Chance to Re-invent Kat’s Cafe

A good friend stepped forward who happened to own a developer’s license for the Headway Theme, which I have been drooling over for a while now, and offered me a chance to use the theme. I jumped on that!

I used the opportunity to redesign the Cafe Header and loved the colors so much that I reconfigured my site colors to match it.

I’ve also been pondering another major site change for a while now, to go along with my passions in life, which revolve around far more than being a special needs parent (imagine that!).

Welcome new passions – Writing & Design

In case you didn’t know this about me, I work as a virtual assistant online, doing everything from copy writing and editing to basic site and graphic design. I love writing, or playing with my words, which you would know if you had a chance to read my In the Silence piece on Logan, his seizures, and a little bit of thread.

So, rather than just talking about being the parent of some pretty amazing kids, I’d love to share some of my other passions with you as well. Sharing my passions in life … that’s what it is all about for me!

  • So how about you? Are you a special needs blogger who writes about so much more than those pesky diagnoses?
  • A writer or designer (and probably infinitely better than little ‘ol me!) who likes to write about a variety of things on your blog?
  • Have you ever used a major site #fail as a chance to start over, or at least reinvent, your blog? [/three_fourths]

    Hi Kat-

I love the new design too. It’s clean and uncluttered. Glad you kept your colors though :-)

OH I forgot to answer your question. My site http://specialmomspace.com used to be http://antistressandpainblog.com It was supposed to be an extension of my estore http://antistressandpain.com . The problem is I was writing on the topic of Stress Relief for Caregivers and what I have to say goes so much more beyond stress relief tips. So I reinvented the blog and it became Special Mom Space – a little spot on the web where I could share stress relief tips AND so much more: product reviews, life experiences, and helpful resources.

I like the new design very much. I agree it is uncluttered and simple. As to your questions: I am a blogger of “this and that”, but am not a writer by profession – I am also a special needs “sister in law” (my brother in law, in his 50′s, has autism). I sometimes think I am in a “special needs” category of my own-not a parent, not a sib, not someone with a disability myself. I am definitely not a designer and I’m fortunate enough (knock on lots of wood) not to have had a major cyber fail.

Love it, Kat. Your own site is your best sales page! I am kind of in the process of reinventing myself too. Rather than just inspiring people to do great things, I’ve figured out they need help actually doing them. It’s a very cool feeling to become more than you were yesterday and to be able to serve people in even a bigger way – I know you will or are also experiencing this!

[...] better day. In case you don’t know me, I’ll just invite you to read my previous post on New Beginnings at the Cafe , in which I shared about how I lost my entire site over the past [...]

  8. Oh my. I really love the Foo Billboard even more now that I finally noticed it follows you down the page. Too bad it’s a Premium Plug-In. I have a laundry list of “must do” expensive repairs at my home. No Premium anything in my near future.

It looks so sharp AND keeps your Social Media Icon Coffee Cups visible no matter where you go. Too Cool! A great way to start off your new new writing and designing endeavors at Kat’s Cafe.
